Chapter 3
“In five or ten years, what will
people do better than computers?”
His response: “very little, other
than enjoy.”
“Do we really want a world without
work?”
This little snippet really stood out to me.
I also wanted to speak on this sentence. “We must look
more closely not at computers, but at ourselves.” Think about it. I definitely found
myself writing about how we as humans have to be careful when it comes to the
advancing technology.
Moving on to the trial, I found myself in the same category
as the jury. I to for some reason found that because the psychiatrist had
physical contact with the man in question, that they were more likely to have a
better understanding on whether or not he would reoffend. It is very intriguing
that we as humans are hard wired to want human interaction to survive and
therefore see any kind of interaction as a positive thing and even held as
better evidence than data.
Computers will do as they are told. They will follow
the exact order, which is a good thing, but at the same time, computers lack
the empathy that humans have. Sure there are machines that can read emotion,
however machines are not capable of feeling emotion or making their own
decisions. We, as humans will always have jobs as we need people to help the
machines run and stay tuned.
I think that it is important to not that people can never be fully replaced by robots or technology. It is scary to think how much technology can already do and how much it will continue to advance. Robots will only be able to do so much and in order for technology to continue to grow, we will need people in order to do that. I think that that quote about looking to ourselves and not at computers is very important to think about. I think that people also blame a lot of things on technology, but do not realize the damage they are doing to themselves y being immersed in it.
