What is Collaboration anyway?
I can already see that this class is going to be an amazing learning experience for me. With the first reading alone I have learned about collaborating and creating context. I immediately thought of YouTube which is brought up in the article and how each person on YouTube is creating their own content. Once someone reaches a number of subscribers and by marketing themselves they can get the attention of big shot companies who will offer them discount codes for their subscribers which brings in more customers, or in some cases for beauty influencers or YouTube they will have a collaboration with a brand and make a certain product with that company's brand and stand their personal logo on that particular product in turn bringing in a bigger fan and customer base. It's all very well thought out and with hard work and dedication I hope to one day create a brand of my own.

ReplyDeleteArsenio,
ReplyDeleteI believe you discussed important aspects about the beginning of this course. I agree that I have also learned so much from the first reading alone and I look forward to learning more about the importance of online communities within today's society as well as discuss the ways in which humans collaborate within various online communities. I think YouTube is a great example of collaboration because it allows individuals to create their own content. However, it is important to understand that simply sharing something on the Internet does not necessarily mean that it is collaboration. Within the assigned reading, "What Is Collaboration Anyways" it discusses an Israeli musician named Kutiman who put together videos of singers and musicians performing through their own webcams. By extracting clips from previously produced videos, he did not collaborate and create an original piece of work, but he utilized technological tools and software to take others ideas. His intention was not to collaborate with the other musicians. It seems like you understand how to create a brand and form a customer base. Do you want to create an original beauty product? Also, what is your definition of collaboration?
Great work!
Arsenio,
ReplyDeleteYou have brought up a great example of online collaboration. I also enjoyed this article a lot. Other than learning a lot about collaboration, this article informed me of multiple examples of collaboration that aided in my understanding. It's cool that the Internet allows us to collaborate with others because it gives us the opportunity to learn from strangers. I think it's very cool that you want to own your own brand. Learning about collaboration with help you a lot for the future.
First I would like to say that I love the layout of your blog. It looks very personalized and well organized and I can tell you put some of your personality into the way it looks. Also, I would definitely have to agree with you when you say you can tell this class is going to be a great learning experience for you. I have found that every eSociety class I have taken thus far has built my knowledge for concepts that are so relevant in my life, and that will be relevant in my field of work when I graduate.
ReplyDeleteThat’s cool you want to make a brand of your own. Do you want your brand to be involved with youtube and to kind of be one of the youtube personalities? Those jobs always seemed incredibly stressful to me, I don’t know how some of these people handle millions of views everyday with the whole world judging them on some of the things they do. I guess it’s a good job for some people, because a lot of people just like to make these videos, but overall it’s not something I’d be interested in.
ReplyDeleteHey Arsenio,
ReplyDeleteI like your post and I am really enjoyed reading it. I think YouTube is a perfect example that you brought out for online collaboration. I love to watch youtube video especially about make up, I noticed some of them are collaborating with brands, for example they will try eyeshades or lipsticks and tell their fans which color their your using, how was it, and their fans will follow them to buy it. I think working with brand and get the personal discount code or something like that is a perfect example to explain what is online collaboration. Also I think it is very cool that you want to make your own brand! Do you want to make your own beauty product?
I also enjoyed this article a lot and thought it had a lot of good ideas. I also feel like I will also learn a lot from this and gain good insight from these articles. I thought your explanation of YouTube was a good idea because it is a place where people are able to really personalize their pages and have people get to know who they are through video and what they chose to post. They are able to brand themselves and make money as well. I see this happen a lot on Instagram as well, people are able to really personalize their pages and make money by advertising and promoting.
ReplyDeleteI also thought the article was interesting. I thought of youtube as well because i use it pretty much every single day. I know a lot about the subscribers and the discount codes and I think its all really cool that youtube has turned into a business compared to what it was a few years ago. When i was younger and i would watch videos of people saying how much they loved a product i didn't know they were getting paid for just giving an opinion! Did you know that once a video reaches over 100,000 thousand views the youtube account gets a bonus and continues to get that with every 100,000 views? How cool is that. I think its really awesome you wanna create a brand for yourself because I've always had the same dream.
ReplyDeleteArsenio,
ReplyDeleteI liked your comments regarding YouTube but I must say I am not sure the YouTube example in the article we read showed collaboration. The example explained how one person took multiple excerpts of musicians and pieced them together to form a new video. It appeared to me this was done by one solo person. In contrast Wikipedia is more collaborative as a multitude of people can add information to a page on Wikipedia. Wikipedia then can review the information supplied and accept or reject if that information may be valid. Wikipedia logs all entries and keeps a collective log by giving credit to each entry. In my opinion, this is a better example of collaboration.
